I was meant to write about one item in my home that I love.
Being someone who has a home full of various kinds of stuff I love I found this very hard.
So I chose three small items.
Three pieces of jewellery.
Am I cheating? Probably....but they are all too important to me to be left out.

I was given this necklace on my 21st birthday by my Mum.
She was given it on her 21st birthday by my Grandmother.
My Grandmother was given it for her 21st birthday by her family.
I love that it has family history.
I love that it is so delicate and beautiful.
I love that I will be able to give it to one of my daughters on their 21st birthday.

I love the simplicity of these pearl earrings.
They were given to me when I was quite young by my paternal Grandmother.
I don't see her very much any more due to us living at opposite ends of the country.
When I wear these they make me think of her and smile.

I thought I had lost this necklace years ago.
One day a few weeks ago I spent some time looking in my jewellery box.
In the very bottom, in a tiny box filled with cotton wool I found it.
It was tarnished and the chain was far too short as I had last worn it as a 10 year old.
I took it to a jewellers, had the chain made longer and had it cleaned.
I'll now never forget my own name.

ReplyDeleteI love that we've written about items that have meaning, history attached to them. Will you draw straws for which of your three get the necklace?!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed writing mine this week and am loving reading everyone else's too! I think I'll give it to my eldest and then give the other two some other great pieces of family jewellery I've got stashed away :)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely stories behind each of these pieces of jewellery, I can see why you wanted to do all three!
ReplyDeleteThe first necklace is so beautiful and I love the idea of it being passed down from generation to generation, what a great link to your past.
I love the first necklace the most - I'd love to have something like that to pass down to my daughter x
