The Forest

We hid.
In hiding found ourselves
Quite lost amongst the towering pines,
Feet made dark and bloody by their
Ever dropping needle spines.
We ran.
In running gained a purpose
Greater than we’d ever known,
Quick and breeze-like through the forest
Desperately seeking home.
We fell.
In falling left our bodies,
Skeletal white against the bark,
Homeward bound through misty layers
Heading for the peaceful dark.
